He's a stall-pacer: He might poop, but it's hard to tell because by the time you get to his stall, he's paced around so much as to churn the poop into dust. There's just nothing there to scoop; it's all just particles mixed in with the shavings.
He's a rope/blanket grabber and puller: If I leave the halter on his stall in a particular way, he'll pull on the end and undo the rope and drag it into his stall. If we put blankets on the outside of his stall, he grabs it, pulls it into his stall, and then tramples all over it (see the above). To that end, I've moved the blankets to the neighboring (kansas') stall.
He'll walk off if you don't have a rope attached to his head! Even if you have something wrapped around his neck (lead rope), he's still turn and start walking off.
He also doesn't really stand still when tied up to the wall. he'll pace back and forth. However, he only in the last week or two has been feeling good/string enough that he doesn't twitch/tense in pain when I touch his back. He's been good enough that I've started currying his back even. He's actually been feeling so good, he'll take a step forward or back because he wants me to curry a different spot. It makes me ecstatic that he's feeling that good. When we first got him, I couldn't even lay a brush or something on his back; he tensed up so much.
He's terribly aggressive/pushy about cookies. If I try and do cookie stretches, he's nosing me for the rest of the day looking for more cookies. and he's pushy to the point that he might knock you off your feet if you're not paying attention. It's not just gentle nosing around. I haven't been doing any cookie stretches with him because of this. I need to figure out something to stop him from being so pushy.
He's got this HUGE stride. Not that surprising for a 16.3hh horse. However, the other day and I paced off his canter at 10 feet? that seems awfully short. Or I'm measuring wrong. have to bring out a tape measure or soemthing. I should be able to get a good measurement if I make a point of it; using a pristine arena first thing in the morning will make it very easy.
Sadly, I haven't been able to get any pictures of M riding him, so I don't really have any new pictures to post to show how he's filled out.

2. After a few minutes of driving, I discerned that we were headed to Palo Alto. Much to Ellie's delight I confessed that I had no idea where we were going. She (probably unintentionally) faked me out by appearing to slow at the street you'd turn down for Watercourse Way. For a moment I wondered if I was going to share a hot tub with several friends... naked. But then she kept driving.

4. I got mad loot. MAD loot. Seriously, every single bit was thoughtful and special and in some cases, something I'd been dreaming of having or getting. I really must hand it to my friends, they know me very well and spoil me rotten.
5. And I had brie and green apple on a buttered crumpet with some delicious Dragon Well tea. When the waitress found out it was my birthday celebration, she gifted me with a small bag of loose leaf Dragon Well. Awww.

- Two hand-made sachets using herbs grown in Ellie's backyard (these smell so nummy!)
- A hand-made mini photo album in a small tin. Again, words aren't going to do this one justice, it's beautifully crafted. And thanks to those others of you who helped Jennie create this. I just adore it. All the photos makes me grin, and I'll carry this with me for whenever I'm having a rough day to remind me that I've got a whole slew of wonderful friends backing me up at all times.
- 3 mixed discs from Ellie: one for our McShep obsession, one for our Blake's 7 obsession, and one for our latest obsession, Traders (OMG, so cool). I was so blown away by this bevy of creativity, let me tell you.
- A ticket to go see The Reduced Shakespeare Company's "All the Great Books" at the SJ Rep tomorrow afternoon. Okay, I knew about this one in advance, but I had been really hoping to go, but didn't think I should splurge on the ticket myself....
- A green paper-coated ballpoint pen, the designs on which include a griffin.
- A v. v. soft, fuzzy crocheted blanket very much like the one Ellie made herself which I *constantly* envy. This one is in lovely warm earth tones and it will have to be pried from my stone cold, dead hands. I'm not even sure I'll be sharing it with the cats. She could tell you what the yarn is called, I always forget.

Still several days until Cat goes to camp, but I've already gotten the stuff she's to bring with her ready and neatly sorted on the table to be ready for packing. Found one dress that needed mending, otherwise we're good to go. Alas, looks like she'll be needing all the bulky rain gear as there's rain forecast for the second half of the week down there.
No other news, all quiet day spent inside reading The Skystone while thunder rumbled outside. Fortunately, tomorrow should finally be cool so I can get around to doing the last of the heavy work. Like getting Cats spare stuff into the basement to wait for the next flea market, and removing the giant inflatable mattress now that we have a proper sofabed for visitors :)

It was cold out by the bay where we watch our local fireworks. But at least I wasn't held in a stress position or water-boarded for days before celebrating our country's independence. I wonder if they had fireworks at GITMO and let the prisoners watch in the hopes their cold-Koran hearts melted while watching the cool "sky-lights."
I wouldn't count on that strategy.
But Jesse Helms died, so I suppose there was something to celebrate. Now I don't wish anyone dead, but some men are toxic as long as they draw breath, so their demise is like a small death of evil.
After the last eight years I cannot say I celebrate my country's number one holiday. What am I supposed to be celebrating? The deaths of 600,000 innocent Iraqi's? The deaths of our boys in uniform? The desire of the neo-cons who run this country to bomb Iran? Am I supposed to celebrate the torture and rendition of people who have done nothing to us? (Most of the prisoners at GITMO are guilty only of holding anti-American views.) Should I celebrate all those poor people losing their homes because of a bunch of greedy bankers? Maybe I should celebrate the thousands of jobs being lost on a seemingly monthly basis?
So I watched the pretty fireworks in the cold, wondering just what the fuck I was supposed to be celebrating.

What is chillingly billed as every collector's worst nightmare (treasured items left to the tender mercies of a vengeful ex-romantic partner) sputters out thanks to inept, unimaginative execution. We were hopeful for some tasty sledgehammer action at least as we watched the camera pan lovingly over the glass shelves in the opening shots, but instead the short subject "climaxes" with a couple of rubber-armed ninnies ineptly wacking on one poor, lone (albeit expensive) biker scout doll, minus a break to (they helpfully tell us!) go pee. Look, girlfriend, if you're OMG soooo mad 'cos he didn't get you A RING! then at least fucking invest in a few M80s for Mr. Biker scout so we could enjoy the 'splosions. This is like buying a ticket for the new Nightmare on Elm Street only to find due to budget cutbacks Freddie is armed only with Lee Press-On Nails.

Everyone else in this part of the world is currently curled up watching the season finale of Doctor Who, which I am not watching because we’ve just moved and can’t afford to get cable yet. *headdesk* So instead, I’m finishing up my words for the day, and trying to remember the eighty-three things I’ve been meaning to blog about. Apparently none of them are actually worth remembering, which is kind of sad. So I guess it’s mostly metrics today, and then I’m going to go re-watch more of series 1 New Who, as I’ve been wanting to do that for a while.

Sadly, the halfway point is the last exciting milestone for a long time. Usually the 2/3rds point is a nice one, but in this case it’s so close to the 75K/300 page mark (which is much more impressive) that it’s meaningless. OTTAWA SUN: Bruce Garrioch reports Senators GM Bryan Murray is working on a potential trade for a veteran defenseman that could be finalized in the next couple of days, claiming Murray has deals in the works for Anaheim's Mathieu Schneider and San Jose's Kyle McLaren. Garrioch suggests McLaren might make more sense as he's more affordable and physical than Schneider, and suggests part of the reason for acquiring a defenseman is the Columbus Blue Jackets, Atlanta Thrashers and Vancouver Canucks are threatening to tender offer sheets to unsigned Senators defenseman Andrej Meszaros. Have taken wee one to Children's discovery museum again, need to go more often. She loves it lots. Still not quite sure what to do about paint wall, or other art-creation types of things. She likes to poke at the crayons and then chew on the shavings. Not so good.

Have made strawberry jam, and peach-orange jam. Also made ice cream with both. OMNOM NOM. Have made many loaves of butter braids, filled with cinnamon and brown sugar or with jam. I think I've got the technique down, so I need to make it again very soon.
Why is it so easy to get to some 500 words in a post like this, and I have a hell of a time getting that many out in the book? Ugh.
